Klezmer Master Class

The Philadelphia Folklore Project and Kol Tzedek: West Philadelphia Synagogue invite you to join in a community klezmer master class for musicians of all levels, taught by eleven remarkable women.

On Wednesday evening, October 24 at Calvary Center for Culture and Community at 48th and Baltimore in West Philadelphia, come learn from violinists Cookie Segelstein, Deborah Strauss and Alicia Svigals; pianist Marilyn Lerner; clarinetists Zoe Christiansen and Ilene Stahl; trombonist Rachel Lemisch; accordionist Lauren Brody; flute player Adrianne Greenbaum; bassist Joanna Sternberg; and trumpet player Susan Watts.

Ten of these extraordinary artists will be in town for just one week (joining local klezmer legend Susan Watts), as they prepare to wow Philadelphia with a concert, Soul Songs: Inspiring Women of Klezmer, on Sunday, October 28 at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. In this one-night-only event, they'll breathe contemporary life into the centuries-old tradition of Eastern European Jewish folk music, paving a path for klezmer's future.

So come on out for the master class!
